The New England Patriots are flying right now. The team has registered big wins in their last two games after a disastrous start to the season. When fans thought everything is back in order at Foxborough, new reports have emerged suggesting it might not be the case.

Apparently, tension is high between the Patriots’ management and their QB Mac Jones.

The Mac Jones maneuver

Mac Jones sustained an ankle injury in Week 3 and hasn’t played since. Barring one game against the Green Bay Packers, his deputy Bailey Zappe has been able to shine. The team registered their biggest wins of this season in those games.

Jones is said to be a curious QB. He wants to know everything going on at the organization he works for. But the Patriots apparently don’t like this style of functioning.

The Patriots, under Belichick, have been a rather top-down organization. Everyone is expected to do what they are supposed to do and not ask too many questions. That is exactly what they want to convey to their QB, according to NFL insider Albert Breer.
According to Breer, Belichick might be using Zappe to teach Jones a lesson of obedience.

I think Mac’s getting his job back. I think that there’s a little bit of a lesson being taught here where it’s, ‘Look, we’re putting a fourth-round rookie from Western Kentucky out there. Look what happens when he does what we tell him to,” Breer said on the ‘Dan Patrick Show’.

The Patriots’ recent form

Since losing their third game in Week 4 to the Packers, the Patriots have changed gears and are mauling defenses for fun. After the loss, they welcomed the Detroit Lions home and shut them out completely. The final scoreline read 29-0 in favor of the Patriots.

They again dominated the Cleveland Browns and registered a 38-15 victory. This victory put Belichick on the second spot in the NFL-all-time list of the number of wins as a head coach. They now rise to 3-3 and have left behind what looked like a torrid start of the season.

Jones is inching closer to a comeback from injury but if the reports are true, he might have to wait a little longer. The Patriots take on the Chicago Bears in Week 7 of the season. They will surely want to repeat their past two performances and rise to the AFC East table. Currently, they sit at the bottom of it.
