Former UFC double champion Conor McGregor has been vocal about his desire for a title fight upon his UFC return. He may just see his wish fulfilled as UFC President Dana White is not ruling out a McGregor-Oliveira matchup.

This comes as quite a surprise, as McGregor has not won a single lightweight fight since his UFC 205 championship victory against Eddie Alvarez. Since then, he has lost to Khabib Nurmagomedov and Dustin Poirier x 2. Thus, White’s comment resulted in an outburst.

ESPN MMA’s Brett Okamoto reacted to White‘s comments and said, “It has been more than five years since Conor McGregor won a fight at 155 pounds. Stop this.”

Also, few fans reacted to the news and wondered what McGregor has done lately to deserve a title shot.

Earlier, the UFC President had made a statement that if the champion, Charles Oliveira, wants to fight ‘The Notorious’, he will entertain the idea. Speaking to The Underground’s John Morgan, White also said that Islam Makhachev is in discussion for the championship bout.

Though later, he said he wants to see Makhachev against Beneil Dariush.

‘The Notorious’ has been out of the action since he suffered a leg injury in his trilogy against Dustin Poirier. Recently, McGregor revealed he could return to action around the international fight week in July.

The Irishman made an offer to the UFC lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira, to wait till July to fight him. As ‘The Notorious’ said that he would start boxing-sparring in April, July would be a perfect time for him to take a fight. However, McGregor was unaware of the fact that ‘Do Bronx’ is already set for a title fight against Justin Gaethje.
