Ever since Survivor Series took place last week, wrestling fans have just been going gaga over one thing. The triumphant return of ‘The Second City Saint’ CM Punk. But as Punk returned after nearly 10 long years, fans are hoping that he will go straight for the top guy in the WWE, Roman Reigns.

And although this seems like a very enticing rivalry, here are three reasons why CM Punk might not become the new Undisputed WWE Universal Champion soon.

1. CM Punk is extremely hot right now, but WWE might protect Roman Reigns for WrestleMania 40

CM Punk is the hottest commodity in the WWE right now. Fans are eagerly waiting to see who Punk will lock horns with first in the WWE. After Seth Rollins’ angry outburst at the end of Survivor Series, fans are speculating that Punk will soon start a heated rivalry with the World Heavyweight Champion. Then again fans are hoping that Punk goes straight for the most coveted title in the WWE, the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.

This means that Punk will have to start a fresh rivalry with Roman Reigns and The Bloodline. But there is someone who is already waiting in line to avenge his loss at WrestleMania 39. We are talking about ‘The American Nightmare’ Cody Rhodes. WWE already gave a hint for the same at the season premiere of SmackDown in September. Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes came face to face which got fans excited as they are really hoping for a championship showdown between Reigns and Rhodes at WrestleMania 40.

That’s one of the reasons why a CM Punk and Roman Reigns rivalry might not happen anytime soon. Also, fans really think that it’s about time that Rhodes became a WWE Championship. Then again WWE can always make it a triple threat match for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 40. We will only have to wait and watch.

2. Solo Sikoa and Jimmy Uso will intervene like every time to cost Punk his match against Roman Reigns

But considering that CM Punk is the talk of the town right now, WWE might make some drastic changes to its future creative plans. These changes might result in a fresh rivalry between Roman Reigns and CM Punk culminating in a title match soon. The last time CM Punk was a WWE Champion was in 2013 when he lost his title to The Rock at Royal Rumble.

Hence Punk too will be eyeing the most prized possession now that he is back in the WWE. The last time Punk faced Roman Reigns was in January 2014. That was the time when The Shield was still active. And as always Jon Moxley and Seth Rollins interfered in the match which led to Reigns emerging victorious that night. History might once again repeat itself when Punk and Reigns meet in the ring once again after almost 10 years, this time for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.

The only difference is that instead of Rollins and Moxley, Solo Sikoa and Jimmy Uso will be playing come to the aid of Reigns this time around. This way Reigns can continue being champion and Punk is protected.

3. Both Randy Orton and LA Knight are also on the list for waiting to execute their revenge against Roman Reigns

In addition to The American Nightmare, there are two other superstars who also have a bone to pick with The Bloodline. First is LA Knight who is waiting to get another title shot after his loss at Crown Jewel. Second is ‘The Viper’ Randy Orton who made it very clear that he has some “unfinished business” that brought him back to the WWE.

Orton went on to say that, “he has a bag full of receipts for The Bloodline”. This very well means that he wants to challenge ‘The Head Of The Table’ Roman Reigns for his title soon. And WWE knows how much fans would love to see this battle either at Royal Rumble or Wrestlemania 40. But at the same time, they also know that fans are heavily rooting for the underdog LA Knight to get another title shot after he was defeated sneakily at Crown Jewel. All these factors might push WWE’s plans of having a rivalry between Punk and Reigns to maybe after Wrestlemania 40.

It is rumored that Punk’s first feud in WWE on his return will be against Rollins with Reigns an opponent for him down the line.

One take at a time

I still vividly remember the time when WWE VHS's used to be played on cable movie channels every Sunday(early 90s in India). And that's where my love for the WWE began. My love and passion for pro wrestling only grew over the years in the form of a mini collection of cards, stickers, tees, action figures and even a WWE Championship belt signed by the 'Big Red Machine' Kane himself (talk about getting lucky).
