Every Formula 1 driver dreams of being part of a winning team. And currently, there’s only one team doing all the winning in Formula 1–Red Bull Racing. And while Max Verstappen is contractually tied with the team till 2028, the second seat alongside the Dutchman, currently occupied by Sergio Perez, is going to be vacant at the end of 2024 as Checo’s contract comes to an end. And Christian Horner claims that almost the entirety of the grid, except the drivers who are locked in, is after Checo’s coveted seat.

Despite all the chaos that’s brewing within the Red Bull camp surrounding Christian Horner, the team secured a strong double victory in Saudi Arabia. After the race, Horner emphasized the team’s unity and commitment, mentioning that being part of the team requires dedication and passion. He expressed confidence in Max Verstappen’s commitment, stating his long-standing relationship with the team.

Interestingly, Horner’s remarks came amidst apparent tension between the Verstappen camp, including Helmut Marko, and the Red Bull management supporting Horner. However, the Brit remains confident about Max’s position within the team. Horner dismissed any suggestion of strain, stating, “Everything is absolutely fine with Max. There’s no tension, no stress.” He emphasized the unity of the team, where everyone, including Verstappen and Marko, plays a crucial role in the team’s success.

On the other hand, there has been a ton of speculation about Checo’s replacement at Red Bull. While many believe that Daniel Ricciardo is front and center in that race, Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko recently revealed that the team will not hesitate to recruit someone from the outside like Carlos Sainz or Alexander Albon.

But Horner remains steadfast in his support of Perez. He reiterated that despite the entire grid wanting to take away Checo’s job; he remains the prime candidate for that seat. “We have a free seat for next year (Perez’s, whose contract expires). I have 16 drivers desperate to get in that car next year and Checo is on pole. He’s the one who has to lose the position,” said Horner as per as.com.
