Pelicans head coach Willie Green eventually revealed that Williamson departed the game due to a left leg pain. Following the game, Williamson was spotted leaving the locker room with no visible limp or wrap on his leg, and he appeared to be in decent condition. However, as the level of his injury is unknown, he will undergo imaging on Wednesday to determine the cause and extent of the injury.

Now as the Pelicans face the Sacramento Kings in the Western Conference play-in final on Friday, the loss of the 2x All-Star comes at a crucial time. There were no signs of his injury scare, as Irving relentlessly attacked the Sacramento defense, all while shooting 100% from the field and garnering 5 trips to the free throw line.

On the other hand, Doncic continued his near triple-double endeavor, scoring 26 points, 12 assists, and 9 rebounds. Dallas handed the Kings their second loss in a back-to-back, winning the game 107-103.

Had the official seen Jokic charging toward him after the call, the 2-time MVP could have been ejected from the game. So, in a way, Maloneâ€s outrage saved his superstar from a severe penalty. Jokicâ€s teammates tried to calm him down and stopped him from escalating the situation. Jokic kept following the official after the call but started walking to the bench before the referee turned towards him. While Harrison Barnes was shooting the free throws, Jokic walked back to the official to give him a piece of his mind. Luckily, the referee let go of the situation and did not call Jokic for his second technical foul.

Was tonight Nikola Jokićâ€s worst game of the season?

The confrontation between Jokic and the official gave a slight edge to the Sacramento Kings for the remainder of the game. Deâ€Aaron Fox and Co. muscled a comeback late in the third quarter and came out with a win over the defending Champions. The Joker had arguably his worst performance of this season. But Domantas Sabonis was on a fiery streak. He got his 17th triple-double of the season with 35 points, 12 assists, and 18 rebounds – a game-high, as well. Except for De’Aaron Fox, who landed 40 points, there was no one tonight who came close to Sabonis’ numbers on either team.

On the 9th, the Lithuanian-American had notched his 16th triple-double vs the Nuggets in a dominant 135-106 win. Clearly, he was a man with a mission. Yet, his dominance couldn’t help pull the Kings over the edge.

The Kings vs Suns

KD and Booker took the lead for the Suns’ win as they scored 28 and 25, respectively. Durant finished with a double-double of his own (28-11). It wasn’t until the game moved to the second half that the Suns started heating up. They managed to get over an 11-point deficit to take a 94-92 lead moving to the fourth quarter.

Phoenix‘s recent acquisition, Royce O’Neal hit back-to-back 3-pointers in the fourth to push them 103-94 early. But Sabonis was at hand to tie the game at 108 with 5 minutes left on the clock. It was from this point that the matchup became a tight-knit game. Another O’Neal three-pointer saw the Suns at 122-118 with 47 seconds left.

Fox was right behind with his own three to cut the gap to 122-121 (41 secs). Booker came along with a jumper after a timeout to push the lead again to 124-121 and from thereon, the Suns did not relinquish control. Including tonight’s game, Phoenix and Sacramento are on par this season with the wins.

In the games played in December, the Kings secured both victories. But January 16th and tonight saw the Suns with the win. In 249 games played by both teams, the “Valley” holds the most wins at 145 to the Kings’ 104. Sacramento still has a long way to go.

Luka Doncic is not the only player in NBA history to have a 70+ point game. 9 other players have crossed that mark throughout league history. Surprisingly, we saw a 70-point performance earlier this week when Joel Embiid created history against the San Antonio Spurs. The NBA witnessed two 71-point games last season as well. Donovan Mitchell and Damian Lillard scored 71 points each last year, nearly two months apart. Devin Booker also had a 70-point game in a loss against the Boston Celtics in 2017.

Several NBA legends have also achieved that feat, including Elgin Baylor, David Thompson, and David Robinson. Kobe Bryant went one step further in 2006 and scored 81 points against the Toronto Raptors. However, no one comes close to claiming the throne of the 70+ point club than Wilt Chamberlain.
